Basiru Jallow, von seinen Freund_innen auch B-Boy genannt, wird mitten am Tag in Tübingen erstochen. Seine Familie, seine Freund_innen, seine Pflegefamilie, die ganze gambische Community und viele andere Menschen in Tübingen sind in Schock und Trauer. Viele haben Angst, der Täter ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch auf freiem Fuß und die Hintergründe der Tat völlig ungeklärt.

Nur einer kennt sie schon. Der erst im vergangenen Jahr wiedergewählte Oberbürgermeister Boris Palmer beginnt wenige Stunden nach der schrecklichen Tat das Geschehen für seine politische Agenda zu instrumentalisieren und das Opfer zu verleumden. Dies ist unanständig und unerträglich. Auch das Gesetz stellt aus guten Grund das Andenken Verstorbener unter dem besonderen Schutz vor Verunglimpfung und Verleumdung.

Völlig unabhängig davon, was wir mit der Zeit über die Hintergründe der Tat erfahren werden, sie werden komplexer sein, als diese unfassbare Vereinfachung „Mir genügt Ort, Zeit und Herkunft völlig, um zu wissen, was der Hintergrund ist!“.

Ist es von einem Stadtoberhaupt zu viel verlangt, Menschen, die einen Angehörigen, einen nahen Freund verloren haben, einen Moment der Ruhe, des Innehaltens, der Trauer zu geben? Ist es zu viel verlangt, in dieser Stunde, dem Toten und den Trauerenden ein Zeichen des Respekts zu vermitteln?

Freund_innen, Familie, Pflegefamilie und auch ehrenamtliche professionelle Begleiter_innen von B-Boy wünschen sich in diesen Tagen Ruhe und sitzen nun da voller Wut angesichts der genannten Äußerungen.
Wir bitten alle, die irgendeiner Weise Einfluss auf Boris Palmer haben: nutzt diesen Einfluss dafür, dass er sich entschuldigt. Zumindest, dass er schweigt.

Und: Für die Trauernden wäre es ein sehr wertvolles Zeichen zu erleben, dass Boris Palmer hier nicht im Namen aller Tübinger_innen spricht. Nicht im Namen der gesamten Stadtverwaltung und – hoffentlich – auch nicht im Namen aller, die ihn gewählt haben.

Dealing with the violent death of Basiru Jallow

Tübingen, 2023/03/26

Basiru Jallow, also called B-Boy by his friends, was stabbed to death in the middle of the day in Tübingen. His family, his friends, his foster family, the whole Gambian community and many other people in Tübingen are in shock and are mourning. Many are afraid, as the perpetrator is still not under arrest at this hour and as the background of the crime is completely unknown.

Only one person apparently already knows: the mayor Boris Palmer, who was re-elected only last year. He began to instrumentalize the event for his political agenda and to slander the victim only a few hours after the terrible act had happened. This is impious and intolerable. German law places the memory of a deceased under special protection against denigration and slander for good reasons.

Regardless of what we will learn about the background of the crime over time, it will be more complex than this inconceivable simplification „To me, the place, time and origin is quite enough to know what the background is!“.

Is it too much to ask of a mayor to give people who have lost a relative, a close friend, a moment of peace, of pause, of mourning? Is it too much to ask, in this hour, to convey a sign of respect to the deceased and to those who mourn?

Friends, family, foster family and also volunteer and professional companions of B-Boy wish for peace in these days. Instead they are left full of anger due to the aforementioned statements and offending allegations.

We call upon all those who have any influence on Boris Palmer: use this influence to make him apologize, or to make him stay silent at least.

Further it is important to state for all those who are mourning, that Boris Palmer does not represent nor speak in the name of all People in Tübingen. Not in the name of the entire city administration and – hopefully – not in the name of all those who elected him.
